In 1860, from a cork workshop founded by Thomas M. Armstrong in Pittsburgh, USA. Over 160 years of establishment and development, Armacell is today a pioneering global corporation, a leader in the supply of insulation material products with 24 factories, 3200 employees in continents, and with orver 300 patents.

Armacell is a truly global company managed from its corporate headquarters in Luxembourg and regional head offices in Germany, USA, Korea and Singapore.

Four product innovation centres spread around the world ensure a steady supply of pioneering innovations to meet customer and market requirements.

To ensure a customer-centric product portfolio, Armacell customises its products locally at 24 manufacturing plants in 16 countries.

Throughout the world, Armacell works with national teams headed by local managers. In countries where Armacell does not have its own facilities, sales offices and distributors extend the Group’s presence to complete our global network. With its regionally diversified production footprint, Armacell has long been a pioneer in exploring new geographical markets and is focused on expanding into fast-growing markets.

Today, in its 7th product generation, this flexible, lightweight, high-tech material features an insulating closed-cell structure with low thermal conductivity and an in-built vapour barrier. A good example of product innovation is ArmaFlex Ultima®. Designed for HVAC systems with higher fire/smoke requirements, it is the world’s first flexible technical insulation material with fire class BL-s1,d0.

  • 1860

    Thomas M. Armstrong establishes a workshop produce bottle corks in Pittsburgh, USA.

  • 1899

    Armstrong produces the first cork insulation sheets made of ground cork, clay and bitumen.

  • 1954

    The benchmark-setting flexible insulation foam material known as ArmaFlex is launched in the USA.

  • 1996

    Launch of NH/ ArmaFlex, the first halogen- free, elastomeric based pipe insulation and HT/ ArmaFlex with a temperature resistance up to 150o C.

  • 2000

    Armacell is founded as a leveraged buyout carved out of the market leading equipment insulation products division of Armstrong World industries.

  • 2003

    Armacell opens a second plant in China, extending its production capacities and strengthening its position in South East Asia.

  • 2004

    Launch of new acoustic insulation ArmaSound with excellent noise attenuation properties.

  • 2005

    Armacell develops green PET foam in Thimister, Belgium, making it the first manufacturer to succeed in foaming high quality recycled bottle- grade PET on an industrial scale.

  • 2006

    Armacell inaugurates production facility in Pune, India.

  • 2009

    Armacell becomes the world’s first manufacturer of flexible technical insulation products to present a lifecycle analysis.

  • 2010

    Armacell launches ArmaFlex Ultima, the first technical foam insulation material with ultra- low smoke properties.

  • 2012

    Armacell strengthens its presence in Asia and open a new manufacturing facility in Cheonan in South Korea.

  • 2013

    Armacell acquires OneFlex, a leading Turkish insulation materials manufacturer and expands its global footprint.

  • 2014

    Armacell acquires business of Industrial Thermo Polymers (ITP), a leading Canadian manufacturer of extruded polyethylene insulation products.

  • 2015

    The investment firms Blackstone and KIRKBI acquire Armacell. Armacell acquires Polypex, a leading Brazilian manufacturer of extruded PE insulation foams.

  • 2016

    Armacell establishes joint venture in South Korea to develop and manufacture silica aerogel blankets.

  • 2017

    Armacell acquires Insulation Business of Momaco, a leading US manufacturer of extruded polyethylene (PE) insulation foams.

    Armacell acquires TB Concept- The Canadian innovator of Insuguard pipe support solutions.

    Armacell acquires Guarto- an Italian manufacturer of acoustics insulation solutions.

    Armacell acquires De Xu- a Chinese manufacturer of elastomeric insulation foams.

    Aemacell introduces next generation aerogel blanket technology. ArmaGel is developed for high temperature applications up to +650 oC and is available in multiple thickness.

    Armacell & KOPP announce “Partnership for Excellence” to increase global product availability and provide customers with extended service coverage.

  • 2019

    Armacell launches new greenfield manufacturing facility in Bahrain

  • 2020

    The investment firms PAI Partners and KIRKBI acquire Armacell.
